Initiated by 2 of the DOUGLAS BADER FOUNDATION Ambassadors, Margaret (Maggz) Biggs and Wyn Jenkins, both amputee cyclists, TEAM BADER Cycling launched with “Tandem Challenge Wales” in April 2013.
Maggz and Wyn completed the gruelling challenge on the 15th April 2013. Riding a tandem and accompanied by 2 other amputee cyclists, Gemma Trotter and Colin Davies, and several members of Wyn’s cycling club, County Merlin Cycles (based at County Cycles at Cross Hands) Wyn and Maggz rode the 200 mile vertical axis in 4 days. Those of you who know Wales will be aware that that 200 miles includes some notorious Welsh climbs.
(More about this challenge including route information can be found in various News Posts on the Team Bader News Page in the News section in the Left Hand Menu of the Home Page.)
The DBF is extremely grateful to Sandra and Peter Jones of County Cycles, Cross Hands, Llanelli for their support of this challenge. They loaned the tandem pictured above for the ride, provided technical back-up, rode the challenge themselves and raised a considerable financial contribution through an in-shop collection box. The challenge couldn’t have happened without them.
TEAM BADER Cycling 2015

GET INVOLVED WITH TEAM BADER Cycling
Maggz and Wyn are hoping that more amputees and other disabled as well as able-bodied supporters will join them in TEAM BADER Cycling to experience the pleasures and benefits of cycling or, to take it a step further and participate in the various Events and Challenges in the Bicycle Calendar. We’d love your help to make TEAM BADER grow.
We’ll soon be publishing the TEAM BADER Cycling Events Schedule for 2015 so please keep checking these pages for details. There may be an event taking place near you.
If you want to try cycling for the first time , improve rusty skills along with the rusty bicycle or come back to the sport following an amputation, operation or other life-changing event, Maggz and Wyn will provide advice and encouragement and we will hopefully be able to point you in the direction of cycling clubs in your area where you can train for your chosen Event. You can be sure that, whatever your level of ability or experience, you will be very welcome.
Participants will be equipped with the TEAM BADER (Cycling) Kit designed by Maggz so, even if you’re not fund-raising, wearing this cool kit you’ll be guaranteed to raise awareness of the charity!
