The DamBuster Cycle Ride, organised by Douglas Bader Foundation Ambassador, Wyn Jenkins, will take place this year on Sunday 14th May.
Places for this thoroughly enjoyable event are limited to 300 and are going fast but there is still time to reserve yours if you act quickly. It promises to be another memorable day (especially if the weather is as good this year as it was last!) and you are guaranteed a great ride and a lot of fun en route! There are 2 routes – one 35 miles (“Fighter Escort”) and one of 55 miles (“Target Mission”) making it the perfect early season sportive for riders of all abilities.
Last year we had riders who “bombed” (pun intended 🙂 ) around in a couple of hours and others who rode as club packs taking in the fabulous scenery and the unusual entertainment along the way. DBF Ambassador and event organiser, Wyn Jenkins
The ride has something for everyone; those new to cycling, seasoned, serious riders and those riding with disabilities. There were several riding with limb difference and other disabilities last year and we hope that there will be an even bigger group representing the disabled community this year. It’s a big part of what the ride is all about and it’s truly inclusive, one to enjoy but not to be taken too seriously unless that’s your choice!
There will be loads to look at, as well as the spectacular scenery, with a surprise in store at the Llynne Brianne Reservoir on the way….You will be well fed, with 3 food stations on the course and hot food at the finish at Coleg Sir Gar, Gelli Aur. There will also be a memento of the day to take away with you. If that isn’t enough to tempt you, you will also be supporting 2 good causes while you enjoy the ride, as proceeds of the event will benefit the DBF and Wyn’s Club, CMC Llandeilo Cycling Club – a truly supportive and inclusive group.
We are very grateful to Wyn Jenkins for all the hard work he’s putting into organising this event. He did a wonderful job last year and, not only was the event memorable in every way but it went without a hitch – great accolade for Wyn and CMC Llandeilo Cycling Club, long time supporters of the charity. The feedback last year was very positive with many already saying they would take part again, but Wyn is determined to make this year’s race even bigger and better. All we need is your support and participation…
With only 4 weeks to go, Wyn is keen to nail down practical details such as provisions and post-ride catering so please get your entries in as soon as you can via the British Cycling Entry Portal, which you can access via the link.
Even if you’re not going to ride, why not come along, support the riders (there will be several DBF Ambassadors and supporters cycling, who’d love to see you) and enjoy a great day?
